Duke of Edinburgh volunteer

Opportunities to carry out volunteering for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in some libraries.

About the role

Carry out volunteering for Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards in your local library. You will be carrying out a variety of roles including working with books, helping our customers, or other tasks as directed by the library manager.  The role will provide useful experience of working in a customer-facing environment and will help you develop new skills and confidence.

What we need from you

We require our applicants to be keen and reliable and to be willing to play a key role in supporting staff in their work.  Knowledge of libraries or a willingness to learn is also important, as is an interest in helping our customers.

We will ask for parental permission if you are under 16 or a reference if you are over 16 when you apply for the role.  You will need to be at least 14 years old.

What you can expect from us

We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Library Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb).  We will be flexible and supportive and staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries.  We will provide training for you before you start the role.
