Assessing your care needs

If you pay for your care and support, you can still ask for an assessment of your care needs to help ensure that you purchase the care that is appropriate for you and do not pay more than you need to.

Equipment clinics

You can ask to be referred to an equipment clinic run by Oxfordshire County Council occupational therapists where you can be assessed. These clinics are run regularly across Oxfordshire.

An occupational therapist will advise you about options to meet your difficulties and, if you are eligible, may be able to provide you with suitable equipment.

Personal care and domestic help

Age UK has national and local information lines:

• Contact the national Age UK helpline for information and advice.
• Contact Age UK Oxfordshire City and County and ask for information and advice. They also offer help and advice on benefits.

Motability scheme

The Motability Scheme was established to provide disabled people with safe, reliable and affordable cars, wheelchairs and scooters. 

About 95% of applicants have chosen to lease a car through Motability's contract hire agreement which gives them:

• more than 4,000 new cars to choose from
• insurance, servicing and maintenance
• breakdown assistance
• annual tax disc
• tyre and windscreen replacement
• 60,000 mileage allowance over three years
• adaptations at no extra cost.

To benefit from the scheme, you don't need to drive. You can nominate up to two other drivers.

The Motability Scheme also provides a small number of used cars through hire purchase.
