Armed Forces Day 2018

A chance to show our support for the whole of the armed forces community

Armed Forces Day is an annual event celebrated in late June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. It is a chance for everyone to show their support for the men and women who serve in the armed forces community; everyone from troops currently on operations to cadets, veterans and the families of servicemen and women.

This year Armed Forces Day will be held on Saturday 30 June 2018 and there are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved, from attending an event to throwing a party or local event.

Further details about how you can get involved are available on the Armed Forces Day website.

Oxfordshire County Council will be showing its support for the armed forces by hosting a flag raising ceremony led by the Chairman of the Council. This will take place on Monday 25 June 2018 in Oxford.

Corporate Covenant signing 2014

On 2 September 2014 the county council signed the 'Corporate Covenant' as part of its commitment to provide support for the Armed Forces community – including encouraging employers to take on reservists as part of their workforce.

Council Chairman Anne Purse said: “By recently signing the Corporate Covenant, the council is also highlighting the benefits reservists can bring to local employers – including the council itself which currently employs six reservists. It is clear to see how people who are experts in engineering, communication or logistics, can bring real value to civilian employers.”
