Library stock helper volunteer

Supporting staff to keep library stock tidy, attractively displayed and in good condition.

About the role

Stock Helper volunteers play an important role in keeping the library stock looking good. You will shelve returned items, make sure the shelves are tidy, and help staff to maintain attractive book displays. You may also help pack and unpack deliveries and do small repairs to keep the books looking smart. You will help customers by showing them how to find the books or information they need or direct them to staff for further assistance. This role is great for anyone who likes to help make a difference!

What we need from you

Our Stock Helper role requires someone who is fairly fit as you need to carry books and shelve at different heights. You will be able to put books in alphabetical or numerical sequence. You don’t have to have read lots but be interested in reading and willing to help others find and choose books.  What you will do in each session will vary, you’ll be happy working as part of a team and on your own.

What you can expect from us

We will be flexible and supportive; staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries. We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Library Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb). We will provide training for you before you start the role.

We will ask for a reference when you apply for the role, and you will need to be at least 18 years old.
