About the role

Code Club volunteers offer their time, passion, and real-world experience to share their knowledge of coding and computing with young people via free sessions delivered in Oxfordshire Libraries.  You do not have to have a background in education; it’s more important in this role to have a passion for inspiring young people, and a supportive nature to encourage children of all ages to develop their potential.

What we need from you

Our Code Club volunteers will be able to commit to a regular series of library-based, at a time both suitable to you and to the host library. The role will involve running sessions where young people will work on individual coding projects under your overall direction and receive your 1-1 support. 

You will be a patient and supportive mentor for children attending the club and work with them, their parents/guardians and library staff to run the sessions in a way that allows children to develop their skills in computing and coding as well as having fun.

You will need to be over 18 years old to apply. As part of Oxfordshire County Council’s safeguarding policy, a DBS check and two references will be required for this role.

We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb). We will be flexible and supportive and staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries. 

How to apply

Due to space and equipment requirements, we cannot offer Code Clubs in every library in the county.  Please enquire regarding via email to libraryvolunteering@oxfordshire.gov.uk  

Once we have identified a suitable opportunity, we will require all our Code Club volunteers to become a STEM ambassador.
