Birth and death certificates

How to request a copy of a birth or death certificate.

We hold birth and death records for Oxfordshire from 1 July 1837. If you require a copy of a recent registration, contact us to confirm we have the register.

How to order a certificate

By telephone

Call 0345 241 2489 with a credit / debit card.

By post

Download, print and complete the appropriate form below, and pay the necessary fee. Cheques should be made payable to Oxfordshire County Council. If you do not include a stamped envelope please add an additional £1.50 to cover UK handling charge and postage costs or £2 for overseas.

Post with your cheque or postal order for the appropriate fee and a stamped addressed envelope to the Registration Service.

For applications made from abroad, payment may be made in pounds sterling by credit card or by cheque in pounds sterling drawn on a bank with a UK address printed on the cheque together with international reply paid coupons. Please do not send international money orders.

In person

At any of our registration offices  with the appropriate fee.

How long it will take

We aim to despatch certificates within five working days of receiving the application, provided we are given full and correct information and the relevant fee. Family history enquiries may take longer.

Birth or death not registered in Oxfordshire
