Reminiscence groups

Talking objects - how museum artefacts can help stimulate conversation, fun and memories.

The Oxfordshire Museums Service Learning and Access team has been running object-based sessions with groups of older people since 2004.

In this time we have built up a wealth of experience, as well as a huge collection of fascinating stories from the people we visit.

How it works

A trained facilitator brings boxes of themed items to your group and helps get the conversation flowing. Museum artefacts, documents, photographs and a range of well-loved objects help to stimulate conversation and allow shared memories, often prompting much laughter.

There are more than 40 themed boxes of objects and photographs on topics such as 'Fun and Games', ‘Sporting Life’, 'Food' and 'Sunday Best'.

We are able to visit independent community groups, supported community groups, assisted living groups and day centres throughout Oxfordshire. Unfortunately, we are not able to visit care homes.

Cost: £21

Please note all prices are subject to an annual review by the County Council.

Suggested group size: maximum of 25

Session length: 45-60 minutes
