Help with transport can be particularly important for children and young people with SEN or disabilities. Information for young people is available at OXME

Transport to school or college

The transport needs of students with special education needs are assessed individually. This is undertaken by the school/college SEN officer working with the SEN Transport Team and is provided according to individual needs and requirements.

Further information about our transport policies including Home to School travel policies and the 16-19 transport policy statement can be read on our home to school travel page.

Public transport

Bus passes giving free travel are available from Oxfordshire County Council. If a companion is needed he or she can get a special companion bus pass. Further information and an application form can be found on our disabled person's bus pass page.

The GOV.UK website has more information on how you can be helped to travel by train, plane, bus, coach, and taxi and about Shopmobility wheelchairs and scooters.

Travelling independently

Some organisations, such as My life my choice run training and/or offer buddy support to help disabled children and young people to learn to be more confident in travelling by public transport independently.

The Motability Scheme

The Motability Scheme can help with the lease of a car if your child is entitled to either the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance or the enhanced mobility component of a Personal Independence Payment and is aged three years or over.
