The National Citizen Service (NCS) programme equips young people (aged 15-17) with skills they cannot learn in the classroom. The programme takes part over four weeks and includes:

  • a week at an outdoor residential activity centre
  • a week at our NCS Skills Festival (in Oxfordshire)
  • a two week Social Action Project led by the participants in their local community.

Information about the recruitment process and summer 2018 dates

We have team leader and support worker roles available.

If you worked for us in 2017 you do not to attend an assessment again but we do need to carry out some new recruitment checks.

You will then be able to apply online. Links and details will be emailed to all those who have given their details on the form above.

Applications will be shortlisted monthly (please be patient if you submit at the beginning of the month).

Successful applicants will then be invited to attend a non-competitive assessment which will be taking place on the following days during the day 11am-4pm at County Hall in Oxford city centre

Staff assessment days

  • Friday 1 June
  • Friday 6th July (final staff assessment day)

The assessment day will consist of exercises to measure your ability given certain situations. The timetable will be emailed to short-listed applicants who book onto an assessment. We will require you to bring ID on the day so we can carry out a DBS check. Details of what documentation we accept will be emailed to you.

After the assessment, we will notify you of the outcome and match you to a role. We will then ask you to complete a form so you can let us know your availability. Job offers will be subject to recruitment checks. Ensure your referees are contactable – we require two referees (details on what type of referee we can accept are outlined at the application stage).

We have 100+ roles available in summer 2018 and ongoing opportunities in the autumn. Roles will be allocated on “first come first serve” so we recommend following this simple checklist:

  • Book onto the first available assessment day
  • Ensure you bring the correct documentation along to the assessment
  • Make sure you put the correct referees down and they return them promptly
  • Respond to any HR requests as quickly as possible
  • Return your availability form asap
  • Make sure you can attend the two day NCS training programme
