Information for childminders

Information for childminders about the revised Early Years Foundation Stage.

Do you want to work as a childminder?

You may have reached this page, but are not yet registered as a childminder. Please see our childcare registration page for information.

Childminders registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. A revised EYFS took effect at the beginning of September 2012. You need the following documents:

  • The 'Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage'
  • 'Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage'
  • 'The EYFS progress check at age two' (A Know How Guide)
  • 'Parents' Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage'

You can find all these new documents on the Foundation Years website or buy them from the National Childminding Association.

Briefings on the revised EYFS took place across Oxfordshire in June and July. You can look at the presentations from the briefings.

The Step into Training programme includes courses to support you with the EYFS.

Templates to support you with the revised EYFS

'All about me'

You can use or adapt the following 'All about me' individual assessment and planning sheet in preparation for completing a child's EYFS progress check at age two. You do not have to use this version - you can devise your own methods.

Letter to teacher

Using a letter from a childminded child to their teacher is just one way that you could complement the work done by a child's main provider of the EYFS.
