Council tax and finance

Examples of services we provide: countryside, social care, fire and rescue and family services

Council tax is the local tax you pay towards services such as road maintenance, some education services, fire and rescue services, social services and libraries.

In Oxfordshire, your council tax pays for about one third of your local services, while taxes raised by central government pay for the remaining two thirds.

Your council tax bill is made up of payments to Oxfordshire County Council, your district council, Thames Valley Police and your local town or parish council if applicable.
